What if a soliciting lawyer sent me something in the mail trying to get my case?
Each state have its own rules about this activity. As an example, in Texas lawyers are PROHIBITED from mailing you any solicitation to get your case before the 31st day after the date on which the accident or disaster occurred. Any lawyer who mails such a solicitation in Texas before the 31st day is breaking the law! In Texas this is a Class A Misdemeanor for the first offense, and a 3rd degree Felony for subsequent offenses.
